MAY NEWSLETTER
The month of April was a busy month for our coaching
staff. The staff has been involved in fundraising events
for the University of Miami. Coach Frank Haith has also
been involved in several speaking engagements throughout
the state of Florida. Our staff also got out on the
recruiting trails. We went out and covered several AAU
Tournaments during the last couple of weekends in April.
The AAU Tournaments allowed us the opportunity to
evaluate 2009, 2010 and 2011 prospects. Please keep us
in mind if there are any talented players in your area
that you feel could help and play at the University of
Miami.
Our basketball team, coaching staff and supporters
gathered at the Bank United Center on April 15th to
celebrate the memorable 2007-2008 season that culminated
in the NCAA Tournament at the team’s post season
banquet. The following players were recognized with the
following awards: ·
Jack McClinton: Team MVP Award, Best Free Throw
Percentage Award and Best Three-Point Field Goal
Percentage Award.
· Lance Hurdle: Assist Award and Hustlin’ Cane Award.
· Anthony King: Block Shots Award and Rebounding Award.
· Jimmy Graham: Outstanding Defender Award.
· James Dews: Most Improved Player Award.
· Fabio Nass: Unsung Hero Award.

Hurricane Quick Facts
· Head men’s basketball coach Frank Haith signed a new
five-year contract that runs through the 2012-13 season.
In his fourth season at helm in 2007-08, Haith led the
Hurricanes to one of their most successful
campaigns in school history. Culminating in the second
round of the NCAA Tournament, Haith guided Miami to a
10-game turnaround-among the best in the nation– 23-11
record, including a win over then-No.4 Duke.
· The Hurricanes are ranked among the nation’s top 20
programs in a trio of early preseason polls. Miami is
ranked No.12 by ESPN, No. 13 by Fox Sports and No. 20 by
CBS Sports. The Hurricanes will return four
starters - including All-ACC First Team selection Jack
McClinton.
· Despite losing five seniors from the 2007-08 team,
Miami will return its top-five scorers, including
All-ACC First Team selection Jack McClinton-who averaged
a team high 17.7 points per game for the season and 18.8
points per game in ACC play, and James Dews - who
averaged 10.3 points per game and started 33 straight
for the Hurricanes. The two guards proved lethal from
anywhere on the court, converting better
than 90 percent from the line and leading Miami from
beyond the arc with a combined 152 three-pointers on the
season.
· The University of Miami men’s basketball team will
play host to Ohio State in the 2008 ACC/Big Ten
Challenge on Tues. Dec 2, at the Bank United Center. The
Hurricanes lead the all-time series versus the Buckeyes
2-1, and have won two straight - including a 75-62
victory in the second round of the 2000 NCAA Tournament.
