The University of Miami has embarked on a project that
will forever change our campus and the surrounding Miami
community. Through the assistance of generous
commitments from Ryder System, Inc. and the Dauer
Family, the University of Miami finally has its own
on-campus multipurpose BankUnited Center.
The BankUnited Center, which opened on January 4, 2003,
serves as the centerpiece of the campus and unites all
aspects of the University of Miami and South Florida
communities. The 7,000-seat center hosts gatherings
ranging from academics to campus and community events.
The cost of the facility is $48 million. The University
was able to construct the BankUnited Center on lead
gifts from Ryder System, Inc. and the Dauer Family and
is asking for the remaining support from friends and
supporters. As a private institution, no state or local
tax funds were involved in the construction of this
facility.
This project is one of the most important in the history
of our great University and the commitment of our most
loyal and ardent supporters is needed. A leadership
donation to the BankUnited Center will be a commitment
to the University and our community for generations to
come.
For more information on how you can contribute to the
BankUnited Center Campaign, please call the Athletic
Development Office at (305) 284-6699.
"The on-campus [BankUnited] Center will not only
enhance Hurricane Basketball but it benefits the entire
community. We are extremely grateful to the corporate
leaders and individual donors who have made the
[BankUnited] Center a reality."
- Paul Dee, Director of Athletics, University of Miami
